A 7-Day Prayer Guide for Your Marriage

7-day prayer guide for your marriage

“When we work, we work; when we pray, God works.”
Hudson Taylor

The greatest action you can take to strengthen your marriage is to bathe it in prayer. I previously wrote about a seven-day prayer guide for wives and husbands, but I haven’t written anything for couples. I recently took the seven key elements from my book The Marital Big Blocks and shaped them into seven daily prayer focuses. Use these as a guide for your own marriage; personalize them as you pray, or adjust the pronouns to intercede for other couples. Here is a 7-Day prayer guide for your marriage:

Sunday – Selflessness (the Glue of Our Marriage)

  • Lord, help us keep Christ first in every part of our relationship.
  • Teach us to serve each other more than we seek to be served.
  • Shape our minds to reflect the humility and gentleness of Jesus.
  • Show me where I need to de-escalate self and elevate my spouse.
  • Replace pride and self-protection in our hearts with grace and gratitude.
  • Help us find joy in sacrifice and in choosing each other daily.

Monday – Dialogue (How We Communicate)

  • Let our words be honest, kind, and necessary.
  • Help us speak truthfully instead of avoiding difficult conversations.
  • Move our talks beyond the surface into real heart connection.
  • Make me quick to listen, slow to speak, and patient in tone.
  • Remind me to affirm and encourage my spouse every day.
  • Let our communication bring peace to our home.

Tuesday – Trust vs. Suspicion

  • Help me choose to believe the best about my spouse instead of assuming the worst.
  • Heal any fear, insecurity, or past hurt that fuels suspicion in our hearts.
  • Keep us transparent and accountable with each other.
  • When something feels off, give us the courage to talk directly and lovingly.
  • Build trust through honesty, consistency, and forgiveness.
  • Let our love protect, trust, hope, and persevere—no matter what.

Wednesday – Intimacy (Oneness of Heart, Soul, and Body)

  • Help us protect time together from distractions and busyness.
  • Deepen both our emotional closeness and physical connection.
  • Give us the safety to be completely vulnerable and real.
  • Remind me to show affection and gratitude freely.
  • Guard us from comparison, resentment, and neglect.
  • Let our intimacy mirror the joy and faithfulness of Christ’s love.

Thursday – Domestic Structure (God’s Design for Our Home)

  • Keep our home aligned with Your design and purpose.
  • Help me lead (or follow) with humility, love, and respect.
  • Teach us to make decisions through mutual submission and unity.
  • Show us how to balance responsibilities with grace and teamwork.
  • Let our marriage model harmony, not competition.
  • Fill our home with peace, order, and reverence for You.

Friday – Spiritual Maturity

  • Keep us growing in grace and the knowledge of Jesus.
  • Build habits that keep us rooted in Your Word and prayer.
  • Make us sensitive to the Spirit’s conviction and guidance.
  • Produce in us the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, and self-control.
  • Help me encourage my spouse’s personal walk with You.
  • Let our faith be alive, contagious, and steady through every season.

Saturday – Stewardship (Faithfulness with What You’ve Entrusted to Us)

  • Remind us that this marriage ultimately belongs to You.
  • Help us manage our time, energy, and priorities wisely.
  • Make us generous and faithful with the resources You’ve given.
  • Show us how to use our gifts together to serve others.
  • Keep our hearts focused on eternal reward, not earthly comfort.
  • May our daily choices reflect faithfulness, gratitude, and purpose.

Conclusion

Prayer is the most powerful way to invite God into the center of your marriage. These seven areas aren’t just a framework; they’re reminders that a strong marriage isn’t built by effort alone, but by daily dependence on Him.

Keep using these prayer focuses regularly. Revisit them. Add to them. Let them shape the way you think about your marriage and how you care for your spouse. As you pray, God will work, often quietly, sometimes unexpectedly, but always faithfully. He’ll strengthen your unity, grow your grace for one another, and align your hearts to His purposes.

A healthy marriage isn’t something we stumble into; it’s something we build together through prayer, humility, and perseverance, and I hope this 7-day prayer guide for your marriage helps you on your marriage journey.
